There are many third party suppliers in New Jersey. Viridian Energy is one of them. Founded in March of 2009, Viridian is a rapidly growing company that offers two different rate plans to customers in our area. One consists of 20% renewable energy and the other consists of 100% wind power, green options that come from high quality renewable resources.

When you switch from your current electric supplier to Viridian, you actively support the effort to "green the grid." At the same time, you stand an excellent chance of reducing your monthly electric bill. Deregulation allows electricity suppliers like Viridian to buy energy wholesale from competitive providers and pass the savings along to customers.* Viridian provides only one specialized service, eliminating the operational costs that often burden utilities. At URWA's headquarters, we've recently made the switch to Viridian and expect to realize a monthly savings of as much as 15% off our prior utility bills. We'll put that savings to good use through stewardship projects at Fairview Farm that improve the quality of our wetlands and meadows!

Viridian is eager to sign up new customers and has instituted a program whereby not-for-profit organizations such as URWA can raise money by recruiting members and friends to switch from their current energy supplier to Viridian. URWA will receive a small monthly residual payment for every customer who enrolls with Viridian through our referral program.

It is important to note that there are no enrollment fees associated with switching to Viridian. Your local utility will continue to deliver your power from the same grid directly to your home, as well as service your electricity needs. You will receive only one bill each month and make payments as you always have, and if for any reason you decide to switch to another energy supplier, you can do so at any time with no disruption to your service and no cancellation fees.

* Under New Jersey's energy deregulation law, the supply portion of your electric or natural gas bill is separated from the delivery portion. With the supply portion open to competition, customers can shop around for the best price on energy supplies. Your current electric and natural gas distribution utilities such as JCP&L still deliver those supplies through their wires and pipes - and respond to emergencies, should they arise - regardless of where those supplies are purchased. Electric suppliers are licensed by state and federal agencies and are not in competition with the local utility. The local utility does not make any money on the energy, only on the delivery and service of electricity, so the utility company supports customers who choose to switch suppliers. Purchasing your energy supplies from a company other than your electric or gas utility is purely an economic decision; it has no impact on the reliability or safety of your service and it does not require any change to your meter or electric lines.
